Every night, Ripley Plimpt searched the cemetery behind his house, hoping to meet an honest-to-goodness, real, live monster.

Well, okay, the live part was optional, but Ripley was determined. Somewhere...somehow... ...monsters had to exist!

Then, one night, he discovered the tiniest of bats with its wing impaled on a thorn bush.

Using his specially designed “impaled bat removal tongs” Ripley gently freed the injured creature of the night.

Along with his best friends,Shakey Blankey, the in-security blanket, and Limbo, the comeback cat, Ripley returned the little bat to the darkest, safest place he could think of.

Once inside, Ripley went to work.

He fashioned a tiny splint out of an ice cream stick and delicately taped the bat’s wing. (Providing medical attention is never easy when a scared insecurity blanket is shaking too much to steadily hold a flashlight.) Ripley taped the bat to the ceiling so it wouldn’t have to strain its wing when hanging upside-down.
